US Trade Deficit Widened to US$105.6bn in Aug26
The US trade deficit widened to US$105.6bn in August 2026 from US$92.8bn in July, exceeding the US$102.0bn consensus and marking the largest gap since March 2025. Imports surged US$17.2bn to a record US$420.8bn, led by industrial supplies and materials, particularly crude oil and nonmonetary gold, and higher capital goods imports. Exports increased US$4.5bn to US$315.2bn, driven by industrial supplies and capital goods, partly offset by lower pharmaceutical exports. Services trade was little changed. (Bloomberg)
